Women entrepreneurship is gaining momentum in Kerala, with innovative eco-friendly initiatives creating sustainable livelihoods. At Sreekrishnapuram in Palakkad district, Ecogreenunit has promoted a unique project focused on areca leaf plate making, particularly handcrafted fans made from naturally fallen areca leaves.
This initiative not only adds value to agricultural waste but also empowers rural women by providing steady employment opportunities. The unit is expected to generate livelihoods for at least 15 women, enabling them to earn income while contributing to environmentally sustainable production.
By combining traditional skills with eco-conscious practices, this model stands as a strong example of women-led rural entrepreneurship and circular economy in action.
