ECOGREENUNIT successfully organized an Orientation Programme for Field Staff and Training Officers at Kamanaicken Patti Village, Kovilpatti, Tirunelveli District, Tamil Nadu. The programme was conducted with the objective of equipping the field team with the technical knowledge, implementation strategies, and community mobilization skills required to promote Ecogreenunit's sustainable livelihood projects across the southern districts of Tamil Nadu.
The orientation served as a platform to familiarize the participants with Ecogreenunit's "Wealth Out of Waste" concept, which focuses on transforming locally available agricultural and natural resources into profitable, eco-friendly enterprises that generate sustainable income for rural communities. The organization has been actively promoting skill development, entrepreneurship, women empowerment, and climate-friendly livelihood models through practical training and technical support.
During the programme, the field staff and training officers received detailed orientation on a wide range of sustainable livelihood projects, including:
- Areca Leaf Plate Manufacturing
- Banana Fibre Extraction and Value Addition
- Banana Fibre Mat Weaving and Handicrafts
- Vetiver Cultivation and Value-Added Products
- Aloe Vera Cultivation
- Coir Pot Making
- Biochar Production

- Microgreens Cultivation
- Rural Entrepreneurship Development
The sessions emphasized scientific production methods, machinery requirements, value addition, quality control, branding, packaging, marketing strategies, and enterprise development. Participants also learned how these projects can be implemented through Women Self-Help Groups (SHGs), Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs), rural youth groups, and individual entrepreneurs, creating sustainable employment opportunities in villages.
Special emphasis was placed on community mobilization, beneficiary identification, project planning, entrepreneurship development, and post-training handholding support. The field staff were trained to conduct awareness programmes, organize village-level orientation meetings, identify local resources, and motivate rural families to establish environmentally sustainable micro-enterprises.
The orientation also highlighted the importance of utilizing agricultural residues and locally available raw materials to manufacture eco-friendly products with growing domestic and export market demand. Participants were encouraged to promote enterprises that contribute to environmental conservation, waste reduction, circular economy principles, and climate resilience.
Following the completion of the programme, the trained Field Staff and Training Officers will coordinate the implementation and expansion of Ecogreenunit's projects throughout the southern districts of Tamil Nadu, including Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, Tenkasi, Kanyakumari, Virudhunagar, Ramanathapuram, Madurai, Sivagangai, and nearby regions. Their responsibilities will include organizing awareness programmes, conducting hands-on training, providing technical guidance, facilitating enterprise establishment, and supporting market linkages for rural entrepreneurs.
The programme concluded with an interactive discussion on implementation strategies, monitoring mechanisms, and future action plans. The participants expressed their commitment to working closely with rural communities to promote green enterprises, strengthen women's entrepreneurship, and create sustainable livelihood opportunities.
Through such capacity-building initiatives, Ecogreenunit continues to strengthen its mission of empowering rural communities by transforming waste into wealth, creating employment opportunities, promoting eco-friendly technologies, and building a self-reliant and sustainable rural economy across Tamil Nadu.
