Ecogreenunit Foundation Discusses Joint Implementation of Livelihood Projects for SC/ST Communities with TAHDCO, Coimbatore on 21st OCT 2026

Ecogreenunit Foundation held a discussion with the Deputy Collector associated with TAHDCO (Tamil Nadu Adi Dravidar Housing and Development Corporation), Coimbatore Region, regarding the joint implementation of sustainable livelihood and entrepreneurship development projects for Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) communities across Coimbatore district.

The discussion focused on exploring opportunities to empower disadvantaged communities through skill development, micro-enterprise creation, sustainable agriculture, and eco-friendly income-generating activities. The proposed collaboration aims to connect eligible beneficiaries with practical training, appropriate technologies, and viable entrepreneurial opportunities to promote long-term economic independence.

Ecogreenunit's Wealth Out of Waste Approach

With a commitment to “Wealth Out of Waste” and sustainable livelihoods, Ecogreenunit Foundation has been promoting rural entrepreneurship and environmentally responsible production activities since 1999. Its initiatives focus on converting locally available agricultural residues and natural resources into useful products, creating employment opportunities while reducing waste and supporting the circular economy.

Potential project areas for community-based livelihood development include:

  • Banana fibre extraction and value-added products: Converting banana agricultural residues into fibre, mats, handicrafts, and other marketable products.

  • Areca leaf plate manufacturing: Establishing small-scale production units for biodegradable plates and food containers.

  • Microgreens cultivation: Promoting low-space cultivation techniques suitable for women, youth, and aspiring entrepreneurs.

  • Aloe vera and vetiver cultivation: Encouraging cultivation and value addition through products such as powders, personal-care products, and other marketable items.

  • Coir and coconut-based enterprises: Developing eco-friendly products from locally available agricultural resources.

  • Other rural micro-enterprises: Supporting suitable small businesses through technical guidance, entrepreneurship training, and value-addition opportunities.

Empowering Communities Through Skills and Enterprise

The proposed collaboration seeks to explore a practical model in which eligible SC/ST beneficiaries can gain access to livelihood-oriented training, technical know-how, machinery-based enterprise opportunities, and guidance on developing sustainable businesses.

Ecogreenunit Foundation's approach emphasizes the participation of women, rural youth, self-help groups, and aspiring entrepreneurs. By linking traditional skills with appropriate technology and market-oriented production, these initiatives can help create self-employment opportunities, strengthen household incomes, and encourage inclusive rural development.

Towards Sustainable and Inclusive Development

The discussion with TAHDCO represents an opportunity to explore institutional cooperation for implementing suitable projects in Coimbatore district. Further planning would involve identifying eligible beneficiaries, assessing local resource availability, selecting appropriate project models, and determining the training and implementation requirements in accordance with the relevant schemes and approvals.

Through potential collaboration with TAHDCO, Ecogreenunit Foundation aims to contribute to a development model that combines social empowerment, environmental sustainability, entrepreneurship, and economic inclusion.
