Ecogreenunit Foundation had the privilege of hosting a 15-member delegation of senior government officials from Sri Lanka, representing various government departments, for a comprehensive exposure visit to its headquarters and demonstration units in Coimbatore.
The visit was organized to provide the delegation with firsthand insights into Ecogreenunit Foundation's innovative "Wealth Out of Waste" model and its community-based approach to sustainable rural development. The delegation explored a range of eco-friendly technologies and livelihood initiatives that transform locally available agricultural and natural resources into value-added products, creating employment while promoting environmental conservation.
During the visit, the officials were introduced to several successful enterprises promoted by the Foundation, including:
- Areca leaf plate manufacturing
- Banana fibre extraction and value-added products
- Banana fibre craft and mat weaving
- Vetiver cultivation and value-added products
- Biochar production technologies
- Compact biogas systems
- Organic soil inputs and natural farming solutions
- Eco-friendly rural enterprises and women-led livelihood initiatives
The delegation also visited the Foundation's production units, where they observed live demonstrations of machinery, processing techniques, product development, and quality control systems. The visitors interacted with the technical team to understand the complete value chain—from raw material collection and processing to value addition, marketing, and enterprise development.
A major highlight of the visit was Ecogreenunit Foundation's community-based development model, which focuses on empowering rural communities, women, Self Help Groups (SHGs), farmers, and young entrepreneurs through skill development, technical training, and market-oriented livelihood programmes. The officials appreciated how locally available resources and agricultural residues are converted into sustainable enterprises that generate income while reducing waste and protecting the environment.
The delegation expressed admiration for the Foundation's commitment to promoting a circular economy through practical and scalable solutions. They recognized that many of the technologies and enterprise models demonstrated during the visit are well suited for rural communities in Sri Lanka, where similar agricultural resources and socio-economic conditions exist.
The officials appreciated the Foundation's integrated approach that combines technology, entrepreneurship, environmental sustainability, and community participation. They noted that the "Wealth Out of Waste" concept offers an effective pathway for creating green jobs, supporting women-led enterprises, improving rural incomes, and encouraging responsible management of natural resources.
During the interactive discussions, both sides explored opportunities for future collaboration in areas such as technical training, capacity building, technology transfer, entrepreneurship development, and knowledge exchange. The delegation expressed a strong interest in introducing and promoting several of Ecogreenunit Foundation's sustainable livelihood models in Sri Lanka through partnerships with relevant government departments and development agencies.
The visit concluded with an exchange of ideas and mutual appreciation, reaffirming the importance of international cooperation in advancing sustainable rural development. The Sri Lankan delegation commended Ecogreenunit Foundation for its pioneering work and expressed confidence that the Foundation's innovative models could contribute significantly to strengthening community-based livelihoods and promoting environmentally responsible enterprises in Sri Lanka.
The visit marked another milestone in Ecogreenunit Foundation's journey of sharing sustainable technologies and inclusive development practices beyond India.
