AN INTENSIVE TRAINING PROGRAMME FOR AMRITH SPECIAL SCHOOL TEACHERS IN BANANA FIBRE CRAFTS

An intensive training programme on Banana Fibre Crafts was successfully organized for the dedicated teachers of Amrith Special School. The primary objective of this programme was to equip educators with practical skills so they can effectively train physically challenged children in their school and help them gain sustainable livelihood skills.

Banana fibre, a natural and eco-friendly material extracted from banana stems, offers excellent opportunities for creative craft-making. During the training, teachers received hands-on exposure to fibre extraction, processing techniques, weaving methods, and the creation of value-added products such as mats, handicrafts, decorative items, and utility products. Emphasis was placed on simple, adaptable techniques suitable for children with varying physical abilities.

The programme focused not only on skill development but also on therapeutic and developmental benefits. Craft activities using banana fibre help improve motor skills, hand–eye coordination, concentration, and confidence among physically challenged children. Teachers were trained in step-by-step teaching methods, safety measures, and classroom adaptation strategies to ensure inclusive learning.

By empowering teachers with these skills, the initiative aims to create long-term opportunities for vocational training within the school. This effort will help students become more independent, creative, and economically empowered in the future.

The training reflects a strong commitment towards inclusive education, sustainability, and skill-based empowerment for special children.
