Training on Banana Fibre Crafts Making for Assamese Tribal Women

Bishnupur, Manas Tiger Reserve, Assam | 12th to 16th February 2026

A five-day intensive training programme on Banana Fibre Crafts Making was conducted for Assamese tribal women at Bishnupur in the Manas Tiger Reserve, Assam from 12th to 16th February 2026.

The programme aimed to create sustainable livelihood opportunities by training women in eco-friendly banana fibre product development. Participants received hands-on training in:

  • Banana fibre extraction and processing

  • Craft designing and product development

  • Finishing, quality control, and packaging

  • Basic entrepreneurship and marketing strategies

Banana fibre products are biodegradable, sustainable, and increasingly popular in both local and urban markets. The training empowered tribal women with practical skills and business knowledge to start small enterprises and generate steady income.

This initiative supports women-led entrepreneurship, rural employment generation, and environmentally responsible livelihood development in the Manas region of Assam.
