An empowering Orientation Programme for Fishermen Community Women was successfully conducted at Stella Mary’s Convent, Kanyakumari on 27th February 2026. The programme focused on creating awareness about sustainable livelihood opportunities and skill-based income generation for coastal women.
The session introduced participants to eco-friendly and low-investment projects such as banana fibre crafts, coir-based products, aloe vera cultivation, vermicomposting, and small-scale bio-gas units. Emphasis was placed on transforming locally available resources into value-added products that can enhance household income.
The programme encouraged women to form self-help groups, explore entrepreneurship opportunities, and participate in skill development training programmes. Interactive discussions and practical examples inspired confidence and highlighted the importance of financial independence and community development.
The orientation served as a motivational platform, empowering fishermen community women with knowledge, practical ideas, and a vision for sustainable and self-reliant livelihoods.
